The Riverfront Times changed hands several times, and most of its online archives were lost. (Two St. Louis librarians, however, managed to save some of the defunct publication’s recent work in an online database.) New Times acquired the weekly in late 1998; the next few years marked a period of marked growth. Under editor Safir Ahmed, the number of staff writers rose, page count grew, and the paper routinely won national journalism awards.
