Protesting apartheid at Washington University — in 1978. It was a different time. Many demonstrations, no arrests. FBI Director William Webster, a university trustee, was keynote speaker at the Founders’ Day celebration that year.

His speech dealt with accountability: “No institution has the right to claim it is not answerable to the people,” he told attendees.

Guy on the right burned a flag in 1979. He’s now an attorney specializing in compensation and benefits.
